Backyard Friends Painting in Acrylic

In this painting class, students will learn the fundamentals of painting animals using acrylics. The class is suitable for beginners and intermediate artists who want to learn how to capture the essence and beauty of animals through paint.
The class will cover various topics such as sourcing good photo references, transferring the reference onto canvas, mixing color strings to achieve different color effects, using a sta-wet palette, and focusing on value relationships.
Students will learn how to let go of realistic color and focus on the relationship between light and dark values in their painting to create a painting that captures the animal's form, depth, and texture.
By the end of the class, students will have gained a solid foundation in painting animals using acrylics and will have created several beautiful paintings that capture the unique essence of different animals.

Golden Heavy Body Acrylic paints, all 2 oz. tubes
Essential: Titanium White and Paynes Gray
These are the colors I mainly use:
*Cadmium Red Medium
*Cadmium Yellow Medium
*Cadmium Orange
*Ultramarine Blue
*Teal
*Violet
*Burnt Sienna (great for animal fur)
*Yellow Ochre
*Vandyke Brown (great for darkening warm colors)
*Paynes Gray (nice dark blue that can be used instead of black)
*Titanium White
*Titanium Buff
Optional: Black Gesso to paint the sides of the canvas
