Come paint with me! This class will be relaxed and experimental. All levels are welcome. An intimate studio experience will allow me to tailor the class to your experience level. We will explore color, form, line, tone and texture using a variety of materials and tools. Learn how to create compelling abstract compositions. Our studio time together will be a combination of guided exercises and demos as well as discussion of past and present abstractionists.
Spiral bound sketchbook. Pages should be thick enough to paint on without bleeding through or
buckling. Size: closest to 9”x12”
•Your preferred paint. Instructor uses Golden Fluid Acrylic.
Colors: Carbon or Mars Black, Titanium White, Primary Colors: Red, Blue, and Yellow plus
any other colors you’d like or that you already have.
•Bring the substrate you like the best. Canvas boards, canvas paper (Strathmore brand or
other), or stretched canvas. Square or rectangular sizes. 9” x 12” and smaller sizes work
well. If you are using canvas make sure it is primed with gesso for the type of paint you are
using. Keeping in simple by choosing only one size is a good option.
• Paper is an option instead of canvas. Choose a thicker high quality paper. There are
pads of “mixed media” paper that would work.
•if you like to collage; bring any patterned or thinner papers you have. Newspaper, book
pages, magazines, sheet music, tissue paper.
•Variety of brush sizes and shapes. You won’t need any over 2-3” wide.
•Favorite drawing or mark making tools: pencils, crayons, charcoal, markers, water media
pencils, colored pencils. etc. No need to buy anything new, just bring what you have.
•Palette knives. Inexpensive plastic ok.
•Containers for water, thick paper towels and/or rags, freezer paper or disposable palette
paper, glue stick, spray bottle for water, scissors, pencil.
