LEADERSHIP LEARNING LAB: Operate Your Nonprofit Like The Business It Is

Virtual Live Class | Available

Do you ever feel that you want to spend more time on your programs and services to better serve the community but other “stuff” in your organization needs your time, too? This is a common feeling in the nonprofit community, and we all know that other “stuff” has to be done. That other “stuff” is the business side of your organization and is critical to your success and affects the impact you make in the community. Please join virtual presenter Paul Hamaty from RAND Strategic Solutions as he explains and navigates you through the various business facets of running a nonprofit. More details are below:

Many companies do not live up to their potential or just fail due to lack of attention to the “business” side of their organization whether for profit or not for profit. By focusing not only on your programs and services but also on those “other” (sometimes overlooked) components, you can be “best in class” and increase your impact in the community.

This 1 ½ hour interactive course provides a high-level overview of the characteristics of a well-run business and why it is important for the nonprofit sector to understand, recognize, and run its organizations like a “for profit” company. The webinar will focus on the foundational, structural, and operational aspects that are important for running any type of business.

WORKSHOP OUTCOMES:
  1. Characteristics of “best in class” businesses
  2. Role of the Board of Directors
  3. Key building blocks for success
  4. Common failures/pitfalls
  5. Importance of having efficient, effective and organized operations
  6. Best practices

Paul Hamaty is the CEO of Rand Strategic Solutions, LLC, a consulting firm that builds capacity for businesses and nonprofits so they may achieve their full potential and thrive in a constantly changing environment.

Paul utilizes a collaborative approach to inspire and challenge his clients, asking probing questions and listening to what is not said to craft executable strategies and solutions that move an organization forward. Paul’s value proposition is that he strongly believes the integration of strategic planning and risk management is fundamental to his client’s success. In his experience, many organizations focus on strategy but fail to ask, “What will prevent my organization from accomplishing its goals and objectives?” The answer, of course, is the risks and challenges faced by the organization.

With over 30 years’ experience, Paul’s clients have included non-profit organizations, small businesses, start-ups, financial institutions, individuals, and the public sector. He has consulted in disciplines such as the performing and fine arts, mental health, community services, faith- based healing, as well as banking, digital marketing, and health and wellness products.

Paul enables his clients to integrate business best practices into their daily operations and works with them to streamline processes for more efficient and effective product delivery, to develop multi-year strategic plans, and to ensure they recognize potential risks that could prevent their success. Specifically, Paul has streamlined operations for UBU Brands and Nonprofits First and has developed strategic plans for them as well as for the Palm Beach Opera, PD/GO Digital Marketing, Big Brothers Big Sisters Palm Beach & Martin Counties, The Symphonia (Boca Raton), and the Center for Family Services of Palm Beach County. He has facilitated strategic planning retreats for MartinArts, the West Palm Beach A&E District, The Police Athletic League of West Palm Beach, and Monarch Health.

As an instructor at Nonprofits First and the Jim Moran Institute for Global Entrepreneurship, Paul has taught classes on strategic planning, performance monitoring, risk management, board development, and operations management.

As Corporate Strategist for the Federal Reserve Bank of Atlanta, Paul successfully led the integration of the planning and enterprise risk management functions. As Financial Management Officer at the Federal Reserve Bank of New York, Paul launched the division’s strategic planning and business process improvement functions to develop short- and long- range plans.
