Course Description

The RATTLE is used in many cultures to memorialize individual beginnings; beginnings which connect us profoundly to ourselves. RATTLES help us ground. Their sound is magical and powerful, creating an incomparable energy unto itself. Forming clay rattles is just as magical; whether they are made small enough to wear, pillow or crescent shaped, molded, glazed or adorned, they end up being forceful artistic creations. Come join us and memorialize your own beginning in clay by making one!

Required Supplies

18-24 rolling pin and basic clay tools.

Barbara Hanselman's Website I started my adventure in clay 20 years ago and am recognized by my hand built whimsical pots and terra sigillata enhanced ceramic clay beads. My clay work has been acknowledged with awards at Strictly Functional Pottery Nationals and the Pennsylvania Guild Exhibitions in Lancaster, Pennsylvania and at several area art center shows. Lark Books chose two of my bowls to appear in their 2003 publication, "500 Bowls" and selected my transfer printed bowl, “What’s in a Word…” to appear in their 2006 publication, “Image Transfer on Clay.” My classes/workshops on Clay Hand Building Techniques, Clay Rattles and Making Beads in Clay are offered at local art centers and my clay work is available for purchase online as well as through select galleries.
