Anticlastic forming is a technique whereby sheet metal is formed over a sinusoidal (sine wave shaped) stake. Forms are created by stretching and compressing the metal with a mallet over the stake, causing it to develop two curves at right angles, a hyperbolic paraboloid, or something like a Pringle potato chip! Many varied and beautiful forms can be created for jewelry, functional, or sculptural metal work through this dynamic, direct forming process.
