Abstract Painting can be organic but require some understanding of the standard constructs of creating any good painting. We will start from the ground up developing textured working surfaces that create rich and visually interesting pieces out of flat canvases.

Open to all levels!

  • REQUIRED
  • • Acrylic paints (the cheap ones are fine as you may use a lot) colors are up to you but at least 4 plus black and white.
  • • Small spray bottle (empty)
  • • Sponge (natural or manmade)
  • • Plastic or metal SCRAPPER (see below) some have handles and can be purchased at any hardware store.
  • • MATTE Gel medium (Golden, Atelier, any brand)
  • • Variety of Brushes (flat 2- inch, rounds, flats, etc...) Different size brushes, splayed brushes, just bring what you have. The more sizes the more varied the markings.
  • • Plastic or coated paper plate/or Palette. Something for mixing paints.
  • • Canvas 16 x 20 or larger. Bring several… up to you on size. But large canvases are more fun ? IF you prefer to use paper please make the sheets at least 16 x 20
  • • Drawing pad for working out designs, exercises and planning
  • • Plastic water container to rinse out brushes
  • OPTIONAL
  • • Markers (conte crayons, magic markers, paint markers, pastels, oil pastels)
  • • Bubble wrap, stencils / textured items that you find that might make interesting markings
  • • Old toilet paper or paper towel rolls
  • • Newspaper or towels for the floor in case of mess
  • • Small Brayer or roller (Hardware stores)
