This workshop is designed for both the aspiring or practiced plein air painter wishing to capture the beauty and feeling witing average/overlooked elements of the urban setting. Discussion of the technique and artistic philosophy will be paired with instruction and demonstrations to hightlight my interpertation and intentions in paint applications. through an emphasis on composition, tonality, color, paint application and edge quality we will achieve the artistic expression of what we observe.

Participants are encouraged to paint with me or simply observe during the demo, after which I will offer individual input and instruction. This workshop will be hosted within the town of Media, PA. Specific location TBD.

  • Having the right materials are essential and will help with your overall experience.
  • -Any kind of painters box with palate. French easel / pachade box.
  • -Painting surface / panel. Participants can work with any size they like. I like painting on oil primed linen panels or wood panels with gesso. (Just a thought, if you are used to a certain size and surface type, challenge yourself and try something different.)
  • -Brushes of your choice. My suggestion: bring a few large flat brushes #10 - #14.
  • Palate knife
  • -Turpenoid or Gamsol / painting medium of your choice.
  • -Paints of your choice. Some of the colors I like to use include: an opaque white (titanium) and a semi-transparent white (flake, or zinc). Cadmium yellow medium, lemon yellow, cadmium red light, rose madder genuine, Cobalt blue, Black, yellow ocher, and chromium oxide red.
  • -Paper towels
  • -A smile
