Join us for a unique sunprinting class - where we will do a deep dive into the differences between traditional cyanotypes and more free-form "wet" cyanotype.

Cyanotype is both a printmaking process and the oldest photographic process. It was developed in the 1800's as a way to create multiple copies in an easy and cost-efficient way. Using UV light, you will create magical blue pieces of art!

All materials are provided, but students are encouraged to bring any botanicals or objects that they would like to play with!

  • Please bring $35 to pay instructor for supplies.
  • This workshop will take place outside if weather permits.
  • Please Note: This class is planned as an in person class and we expect that it will run the full semester in person. However, there is an ongoing need to adhere to guidance and safety practices in order to safely manage the COVID-19 situation. The guidelines from state government and public health authorities change as time progresses and the CAC may need to make adjustments accordingly. It is possible that this class will transition to an online format at some point during the semester. In this case, tuition refunds will not be issued unless the CAC is unable to provide the same number of class sessions as initially planned either in person or in a remote format.

Hughes, Emie

Emie Hughes is a mixed-media artist, photographer, choreographer, and educator. Trained as a modern dancer, Emie graduated with a B.A. in Dance/Theatre Arts from Dickinson College, where she won the Emil R. and Tamar Weiss Prize in Creative Arts. After graduating, she lived and worked in NYC for 6 years in the arts, arts administration, and fundraising. She has exhibited her mixed-media pieces in Brooklyn, New York, and she has presented her choreographic works at venues including the Delaware Art Museum, Brandywine River Museum, Triskelion Arts, Dixon Place, and the Bowery Poetry Club, among others. She has taught workshops in art and dance at the Delaware Art Museum, Brandywine River Museum, and the Girls Can Do Anything! 2019 Conference. In 2020, Emie created her business Blue Jar, which specializes in creating original artworks and leading workshops in the cyanotype process, photography, and movement. Learn more at bluejarllc.com.
