Botanical artist, Lisa Dawn White, will walk students through how to prepare natural fibers to receive the botanical dyes found in an assortment of local plants through a contact printing process called ecoprinting. In this introductory class, Lisa will share the techniques she uses to prepare (i.e., mordant) the fibers to receive the dyes and ensure permanency; select and prepare the best plants for printing, place the plants according to their shape, composition, and sun and moon sides; properly roll up a fiber bundle; and set up and tend to a steam pot. Students will create several ecoprinted textiles.

  • Please Note:  This class is planned as an in person class and we expect that it will run the full semester in person.  However, there is an ongoing need to adhere to guidance and safety practices in order to safely manage the COVID-19 situation.  The guidelines from state government and public health authorities change as time progresses and the CAC may need to make adjustments accordingly.  It is possible that this class will transition to an online format at some point during the semester.  In this case, tuition refunds will not be issued unless the CAC is unable to provide the same number of class sessions as initially planned either in person or in a remote format.
  • Please bring $25 to pay directly to the instructor for materials.

These supplies are optional, but recommended - an apron, rubber/latex gloves, plant clippers/heavy duty scissors, any favorite plants to try, and a journal or notebook to record processes and take notes.
