In "Portrait and Figure Life Drawing" students will learn to represent the human face and figure in drawings by observing a live model doing extended long-held poses. Demonstrations illustrating the anatomy and proportions of the head and body and instructions and demonstrations on techniques of drawing will be given by the instructor. All levels are welcome.

Teacher will teach via Zoom. Students will participate in person at the Community Arts Center. A teacher's aide will be in person to assist the teacher and students.

    FOR PASTEL STUDENTS:
  • You need only bring materials marked with an * to the first day of class. We’ll talk about different kinds of pastels and supports in class. *Drawing board, 18”x24” or bigger *Clips or tape to attach the paper to the board *Pastel paper in middle-toned colors (Strathmore pastel paper in assorted colors is good for beginning and widely available) Any paper with a tooth is fine for the short studies, Canson Mi-Teintes in middle toned grays or Wallis papers are good for longer portrait and figure drawings. *Pastels Any brand that you already have will be fine to start with. No oil pastels. I use Rembrandt, Unison and Sennelier brands of soft pastels and Nupastel brand of hard pastels. Also, I use pastel pencils for portrait details (Crab-Othello brand). Get the largest collection of good quality pastels you can afford, the more you have, the easier it is for you to work. A set of half-sticks is an economical way to get a color range. *Kneaded eraser *Charcoal sticks. Vine charcoal, soft willow fine Charcoal pencils Flat bristle brash (for removing pastel) Lotion-free wipes for hands Workable Fixative (optional)
