Let’s spend a few spring evenings exploring a variety of basic drawing processes. Each week will focus on a different subject for inspiration as we sharpen observation skills using real objects or photos for reference (ex. still life, nature, architecture, composition & design). We will start with guided drawing experiences to practice techniques, and then spin-off into developing your individual style.

  • Please Note:  This class is planned as an in-person class and we expect that it will run the full semester in person.  However, there is an ongoing need to adhere to guidance and safety practices in order to safely manage the COVID-19 situation.  The guidelines from state government and public health authorities change as time progresses and the CAC may need to make adjustments accordingly.  It is possible that this class will transition to an online format at some point during the semester.  In this case, tuition refunds will not be issued unless the CAC is unable to provide the same number of class sessions as initially planned either in person or in a remote format.
  • Students provide 9x12 sketchbook.
  • Materials provided by CAC: Drawing Pencil Set and Black ink Micron Pen 05, 9x12 Strathmore Bristol smooth paper (shared with class)

Gail Ann Herring is a graduate of Kutztown University (BS in Art Education), and also Maryland Institute College of Art (MFA). As a teaching artist, Gail has worked with students of all ages — in youth classes and adult workshop settings, as an artist-in-residence (age 3 - high school), and as an adjunct instructor in Early Childhood Arts Education (college). Gail has engaged in numerous collaborations with artists, teachers, and community-based programs to develop and mentor arts-integrated learning experiences focused on literacy and the arts.
