Join renowned ceramic artist John Dix for a week long workshop and wood kiln firing.

John Dix has spent the last 25 of his 35 years with clay primarily in Japan.  This has led to works that show a strong Japanese influence but still retain elements of his early training in the West.

"The word that best describes my approach to clay is 'Serendipity", John states. "I'll have a starting point without a clear destination, a familiar path (constructing a teapot , a sake bottle, etc.) which I always give myself permission to diverge from. This freedom brings freshness to the work and has sustained me over the years. Firing takes the idea of 'serendipity' to a higher level. “I don't know of any other art form where chance plays such a pivotal role."

Please Note:  This class is planned as an in person class and we expect that it will run the full semester in person.  However, there is an ongoing need to adhere to guidance and safety practices in order to safely manage the COVID-19 situation.  The guidelines from state government and public health authorities change as time progresses and the CAC may need to make adjustments accordingly.  It is possible that this class will transition to an online format at some point during the semester.  In this case, tuition refunds will not be issued unless the CAC is unable to provide the same number of class sessions as initially planned either in person or in a remote format.
