Fashion is responsible for 9% of global emissions and up to 1/5 of global water pollution. 90% of dyes are made from petrochemicals. What can we do as a "post consumer" to contribute to a greener, sustainable future? Repair our clothes! On average a SINGLE MEND increases the life of a garment for 1.5 years. Join me, by not just repairing your beautiful, beloved garment, but by making the mend visible, starting a conversation with others about how to slow down our fashion habit. The class will include a look at the repair and slow fashion movements.
Class #1 Patching and Stitching-
For worn or torn garment we'll mend with sashiko style stitching (with japanese needle and thread). Best for Jeans, cottons and linens (no synthetics or stretchy jeans, but up to 5% stretch is okay). Embroidery thread can be used, but will not create as much durability for tough wear (knee holes etc).
Class #2 Darning
Learn a simple, age old needle weaving technique, applied for a surprisingly beautiful visible mend. Best for sweaters, scarves, hats and other knits with moth holes, worn elbow
