Printmaking: Monotype & Relief
Fall Class | This course is completed
Printmaking practices and concepts will be explored using the techniques of Monotype and Relief. Monotype printmaking makes a singular, unique image. Relief printmaking makes multiple images. The combination of the two will produce the Monoprint. First two classes are devoted to Monotype, the second two classes will explore Relief printmaking and the last two classes will explore producing the Monoprint.
Students can bring any printmaking materials they have or want to bring, tools, paper, etc. The instructor provides Akua Inks (water soluble with less toxic cleanup) and some paper. The printshop has some tools, reference materials and printing presses. Cutting tools and surfaces will be discussed. Surfaces for relief will be easier to cut, not wood or linoleum. A Speedball cutting tool may be adequate. A newsprint pad is convenient for transporting wet prints.
