Beginner Shibori Dyeing Workshop

Fall Workshop | This course is completed

In this beginner friendly workshop, you'll learn the art of Shibori, a Japanese manual hand-dyeing technique which produces beautiful patterns in fabric in a range of blues using Indigo dye. Four different patterns will be taught - you'll choose two techniques to prep your fabrics.

Students may choose to create:

-One 8"x72" silk scarf and One 11 "x60" scarf OR

-Two 18"x\8" cotton pillow covers w/zippers OR

-One large cotton tote bag w/pocket l9"x17"x9.5"

  • Students will need to supply: 

    Aprons or "messy clothes"

    Optional: Long Rubber gloves (Playtex/OCedar “drip cuff” gloves are long enough)

Susan Fox Mitrano

An artist working in many mediums, Sue Fox Mitrano currently creates Shibori textiles and nature-inspired linocut prints. Her hand-dyed silk, cotton and bamboo scarves and home goods are made with traditional Shibori techniques as well as original designs. 

Sue is also a certified K-12 Art Teacher with a BFA in Graphic Design from Syracuse University and a BA in Art Education at The College of NJ, teaching in area public and private schools.  She has been teaching children and adults at art centers in NJ and Pennsylvania for over 14 years.
