Next Level Ecoprinting: Adding Color with Botanical Dyes

This workshop is for students who have taken the introductory ecoprinting workshops (Introduction to Ecoprinting: the Art, Science & Magic of Ecoprinting or Ecoprintng the Seasons seris) where the foundations of contact printing with plants on fiber are introduced. In this workshop, botanical dyes will be introduced in the buldles via day blankets to achieve a wider range of colors thank only thebotanicals used in the conttact print can offer. Students will create two silk scarves to take home.
- Please note that the foundations of ecoprinting will not be discussed in this class and students who do not have 8 or more hours of instruction and practice in ecoprinting will not be accepted, as time will not be allocated for foundation-level instruction. Lisa will provide all of the required materials; however, students may want to bring samplings of their freshly cut favorite plant material, an apron, clippers, notebook/ journal and rubber/latex gloves (if preferred).
$20 materials fee paid to instructor at beginning of workshop.

To create her botanical arts, Lisa Dawn White peruses nature’s classrooms of forest, fields and gardens with a playful sense of “what will I find today?” Through Lisa’s work, you may observe the language of nature as evidenced through her repeating patterns and symbols. Lisa holds a bachelor's degree in Anthropology and a master’s degree in horticulture, thus, her interest in how humans use plants for food, fiber, medicine, art, decoration, healing and beauty is longstanding. Her line of botanical arts includes mixed media collage, pressed flower jewelry, ecoprinted textiles and digitally rendered wearable art. Along with having designed for catalogs and published articles in magazines, Lisa has had her work carried in over one hundred shops and galleries throughout North America.
