Monoprinting in monochrome & color
Winter Workshop | Registration opens Wednesday, November 5, 2025 12:00 AM EST
Monoprints (sometimes called monotypes) are unique, hand-made prints made with or without a press. The process is very free, not fussy, and invariably leads to many engaging images. Explored by artists such as Degas, Picasso and Bonnard, working in the late 19th and early 20th century, it is a great way to experiment with image and compositional ideas, and quickly generate complete tonal works with a painterly feel. In this three-session workshop you'll start with a printmaking method you can do in your home studio. You'll then move to more complex ways of working such as drawing by subtraction (removing ink), working in color, and overprinting. Artists of all experiences and styles are encouraged.
- Please purchase and bring to class:
Regular white drawing paper, heavy weight printing paper, image references, brushes for oil based materials
*The $10 Lab fee covers access to an 8x10 plexiglass printing plate, Akura soy based inks and medium, nitrile gloves, and Q-tips.
