Find Your Edge - A Short Course for Handbuilders

This 4-week course encourages the exploration of a variety of hand-building techniques such as coiling, pinching, carving and slab building. We will focus on which method of construction works best for the intended result for creating strong sculptural forms with a dynamic edge. At the same time, pushing your personal edge as an artist. Glazing will not be covered.

Schedule Notes:
This class meets 4 times on Wednesdays from 5/20/26 to 6/10/26.

  • Clay is not included in lab fee.  Clay must be purchased through the office by email, info@communityartscenter.org, by phone, 610-566-1713 or in person on the 1st day of class or as needed.  Indicate which clay body you want. Your instructor will help you select your clay body. Porcelain clay bodies (257 and 437) are priced at $60 per unit. Non-porcelain clay bodies are priced at $35 per unit. Present your email receipt to your instructor to get your clay. Purchase clay before taking clay, thank you.

    Please note: Students who wish to fire work in the soda kiln and are currently registered in a class that is not soda kiln specific can do so for an additional $20 fee/semester. Only available to students who have previously taken a soda specific class or workshop at CAC.
  • Please bring basic clay tools, available for purchase at the CAC.
Wendy Liss

Wendy Liss is an artist, designer, and educator. Her current work consists of hand-built ceramic sculptures and outdoor installations that explore various clay bodies and firing methods. Inspired by nature and the human figure, Liss works out of her studio in the suburbs of Philadelphia.

 

Liss earned her Bachelor of Fine Arts (‘84) and an Art Education Certification (‘85) from Moore College of Art in Philadelphia, PA.

 

Her work is shown throughout the Mid-Atlantic region and is available through InLiquid, The Art Shop at Moore College of Art and Design, Parisa Rugs & Decor in Old City Philadelphia and Werring Contemporary Gallery.
