Altering Forms on the Wheel

Wheel throwers often concentrate on learning how to make pots round. What if we manipulated wheel thrown pots to explore other shapes and angles? Now let’s try darting, squaring and altering forms that are truly unique! This class is beginner friendly and welcomes advanced throwers as well.
SCHEDULE NOTES:
This class meets 12 times on nonconsecutive Mondays from 9/14/26 to 12/7/26.
No class on Monday 10/26/2026.
The Community Arts Center will be closed for Thanksgiving Break from 11/26/26-11/28/26.
- Clay is not included in lab fee. Clay is to be purchased through the office. Purchase can be made via email, by phone and/or in person during office hours. Please note specific clay body when placing order. Porcelain clay bodies (257 and 437) are priced at $60 per unit. Non-porcelain clay bodies are priced at $35 per unit. Purchase in advance of class and present receipt to instructor before collecting clay.
Please note: Students who wish to fire work in the soda kiln and are currently registered in a class that is not soda kiln specific can do so for an additional $25 fee/semester. Only available to students who have previously taken a soda specific class or workshop at CAC.
- You will need clay and basic pottery/wheel tools (both can be purchased from CAC as noted above).
If new to ceramics, you can borrow tools offered by this instructor until you decide what you need.
Ann Suchecki
Annie discovered the Community Arts Center within the first month of moving here in 1990. She hasn't let go of it since and generally tries to make herself useful around the house. She has been a fulltime potter for almost 50 years and a Potters Guild Member for 36 years. Ann has taught a variety of classes including Art for Homes-Schoolers, children's ceramic classes, Summer Spree Director, and adult Handbuilding and Wheel Throwing. She has an insatiable thirst for learning more about Ceramics and frequently attends workshops and classes. She fires her personal work in wood, gas, soda, and electric kilns. She also enjoys primitive firing. Her passion for clay has taken her to the Penn Museum of Archeology and Anthropology, where she is a Docent.
