Spend your lunch break learning to paint with watercolor! This introductory level watercolor class will focus on landscape painting to teach about mark making, color mixing, and the basic tenants and principles of watercolor painting (like patience and mindfulness)! This course curriculum and paice will be dictated largely by the wants and needs of the group!

  • This is an online class presented using Zoom. Online Zoom class information will be sent to you upon registration. Zoom is free and easy to use! The CAC will provide you with information on how to use Zoom if needed.
  • - Computer, phone or tablet equipt with zoom
  • - Portable watercolor kit that includes at least 12 colors including black and white. Low budget brand recommendation: Yarka. High budget brand recommendation: Windsor Newtown or Koi. Tubes or pans are both fine!
  • - Set of watercolor paintbrushes (assorted shapes and sizes)
  • - 9x12” (or similar size) Canson or Strathmore brand watercolor paper pad (must say “watercolor,” not “mixed media”)
  • - #2 pencil or other drawing pencil
  • - White eraser (Recommended brand: Mars Staedtler)
  • - Ruler or straight-edge
  • - Paper towels
  • - Plastic container(s) for water
  • - Low-tack tape such as blue painter’s tape
  • - Additional *optional* supplies may be recommended throughout the course

Website: http://www.ericaharney.com/index.html Philadelphia-based painter Erica Harney (b. Westchester County, NY 1984) grew up in and around the Saratoga Springs, NY. area. She holds a BFA from Alfred University, Magna Cum Laude and an MFA from the Pennsylvania State University. She has also studied at the Santa Reparata International School of Art in Florence, Italy. Harney has exhibited extensively across the US and internationally. Significant solo and group exhibitions have taken place at Cecil College in Elkton, MD, Greenpoint Gallery in Brooklyn, the Pennsylvania State University, Penn State Harrisburg, Red Raven Art Company in Lancaster, PA, Estate Yard Gallery in Castlecomer, Ireland, SELECT Fair at Art Basel Miami Beach, GoggleWorks Center for the Arts in Reading, PA, the Crane Arts Center in Philadelphia and several New York City galleries. Erica Harney is the recipient of numerous awards, including a Graham Endowed Fellowship, a Daniel J. Murphy II Award for Creativity, and a Christos N. Apostle Grant. She has been featured in several publications, including KA Confidential, Studio Visit Magazine, Southern Humanities Review and TriQuarterly, and she illustrated the cover of Smoking Cigarettes, Eating Glass: A Psychologist's Memoir by Annita Sawyer. Harney has been a resident artist at ArtScape in Toronto, Weir Farm in Connecticut, the Palazzo Rinaldi Italy, and the Vermont Studio Center.
