Course Description

Beginning students will learn basic slab and assembling techniques, experiment with different templates, and introduce textures into their pieces. More advanced students can strengthen their techniques and create templates of their own.

Special Notes

Clay is not included in lab fee.
Please Note: This class is being offered both in person and online. Some students will participate through a Zoom meeting that is running on a laptop in the studio while the in person class is taking place. Video cameras will be used to give remote students visual access to the studio. If you are in the studio in person, you may appear on video from time to time. By registering for this class you consent to appearing in the Zoom video. The Zoom class sessions are not recorded and security measures are in place to prohibit anyone not registered for the class from logging into the Zoom session.
This class is planned as an in person class and we expect that it will run the full semester in person. However, there is an ongoing need to adhere to guidance and safety practices in order to safely manage the COVID-19 situation. The guidelines from state government and public health authorities change as time progresses and the CAC may need to make adjustments accordingly. It is possible that this class will transition to an online format at some point during the semester. In this case, tuition refunds will not be issued unless the CAC is unable to provide the same number of class sessions as initially planned either in person or in a remote format.
Students who wish to fire work in the soda kiln and are currently registered in a class that is not soda kiln specific can do so for an additional $20 fee/semester. Only available to students who have previously taken a soda kiln specific class or workshop at the CAC. Please call or stop by the office to sign up.

Required Supplies

Students should bring basic clay tools (which can be purchased at CAC).

Bridget Hughes' Webpage When I started working with clay in 1996, it was the once a week creative outlet I had while working multiple jobs. It continued this way for many years although the jobs were eventually replaced with multiple children. As my children grew older and I could devote more time to clay, my hobby became my passion. I was an Associate at the Community Arts Center in Wallingford for many years before becoming a member of the Potters Guild. I teach hand-building at the Community Arts Center and sell my work both locally and nationally.
