Course Description

Join us to fire the soda kiln! Let's glaze some pots and brush on flashing slips and load some pottery. Saturday, will be a loading, talking and dreaming day. Sunday we will fire and play in clay.

Special Notes

Please Note: This class is planned as an in person class and we expect that it will run the full semester in person. However, there is an ongoing need to adhere to guidance and safety practices in order to safely manage the COVID-19 situation. The guidelines from state government and public health authorities change as time progresses and the CAC may need to make adjustments accordingly. It is possible that this class will transition to an online format at some point during the semester. In this case, tuition refunds will not be issued unless the CAC is unable to provide the same number of class sessions as initially planned either in person or in a remote format.

Required Supplies

Bring bisqued pieces to glaze and fire.

Robert Deane

Bob Deane's Website Bob Deane is a potter and painter who was raised in the Media, PA area. He earned a B.F.A in Ceramics from Bloomsburg University in 1988. His work has been shown in many local stores and galleries. Recently, Bob has been immersed in working with local creek clay and discovering the connection between the ground he walks on and the artwork he creates. He currently teaches at the Community Arts Center in Wallingford, PA, at the Mainline Art Center and the Wayne Arts Center both on Philadelphia’s Main Line. Bob has been a member of the Wallingford Potter’s Guild since 1991.

Instructor(s)

Justin Benn

Justin is a ceramic artist and teacher who leads clay and Lego classes with children at the Community Arts Center. Additionally, he assists seniors in the CAC's community outreach program at Plush Mills Senior Living. Though he is a young and budding artist, he has already developed his own unique style with his work in masks. His work centers around the way clay connects to nature, as well as the way his subconscious speaks through his hands and into his work. Justin is currently a Ceramic's Associate and kiln tech in the CAC's ceramic's studio.
