Join renowned portrait painter Kerry Dunn for this workshop in portrait painting in oils from a live model, long pose.  Students will have 4 days to spend on one painting from start to finish!  Each morning Kerry will lead with a demonstration for the class to follow for the day.  Kerry will teach drawing and underpainting, flesh tones, modeling the surface anatomy, color integration and finishing.

  • Please Note: This class is planned as an in person class and we expect that it will run the full semester in person. However, there is an ongoing need to adhere to guidance and safety practices in order to safely manage the COVID-19 situation. The guidelines from state government and public health authorities change as time progresses and the CAC may need to make adjustments accordingly. It is possible that this class will transition to an online format at some point during the semester. In this case, tuition refunds will not be issued unless the CAC is unable to provide the same number of class sessions as initially planned either in person or in a remote format.

  • One Canvas: 

    16 x 20 or 18 x 24

    Portrait grade (texture)

    Can be acrylic gessoed or oil gessoed

    Tone a medium gray color.

    If acrylic -use Golden neutral gray no. 6, allow 2 days to dry.

    If oil -use alkyd oil paint or Fastmate oil paint, mix neutral gray, allow 2 weeks to dry.

     

    Brushes:

    3 - Filbert brushes no. 6

    3 - Filbert brushes no. 4

    3 - Filbert brushes no. 2

     

    *Non toxic* oil paint thinner preferred - and container with lid

     

    Stand oil or linseed oil or medium- and small container 

     

    Paper towels or rag

     

    Oil Paints:

    Ivory Black

    Burnt Sienna

    Alizeron Crimson (or any cool red)

    Terra Rosa (or Venetian Red)

    Cadmium Red

    Yellow Ochre

    Cadmium Yellow

    Indian Yellow

    Viridian

    Ultramarine Blue

    Titanium White (plus Flake white if desirable)

     

    Palette:

    Wood or glass palette: 16 x 20 or 18 x 24
