John Singer Sargent was an incredible artist who was well-known for his oil portraits. However, Sargent’s true love were his own watercolor paintings of landscapes throughout Europe and North America. This workshop examines these landscapes, looking at Sargent’s techniques, colors, composition and use of light and shadow. Participating painters will be able to create their own art based on Sargent’s work. Both beginner and more experienced painters are welcome. Upon registration, painters will receive an email with information, including a materials list. The Zoom Link will be sent to you just prior to
the workshop.

Margie Samuels is an experienced watercolor artist and art teacher. Graduating with honors from Brandeis University, she majored in fine arts, then went on to study painting at both the Arts Student League in New York and the New Jersey Center for Visual Arts. Over the years, Samuels has painted with Mitchell Siporin, Elaine DeKooning, Nancy Korde, Tony Van Hasselt, Skip Lawrence, Don Andrews, Mel Stabin and others. Samuels has her own studio in West Caldwell where she teaches classes and workshops. In addition, each summer Samuels teaches a plein air workshop at the InView Center for the Arts, in Landgrove, Vermont. Samuels shows and sells her own paintings through various arts organizations as well as local and out-of-state galleries. She is a Signature Member of the New Jersey Watercolor Society, the Garden State Watercolor Society and the Essex Watercolor Club. She has also won numerous awards for her paintings. Samuels has an impressionistic style with a strong sense of composition; her paintings invite the viewer in through exciting brushwork and color combinations.
