Inspired by the great artists Joseph Cornell, Betye Saar, and Louise Nevelson, this course focuses on the beautiful niche world of assemblage art. Students will learn about the history of assemblage, with its diversity and endless possibilities for creating new worlds to display. Using materials like found objects, shadow boxes, old books, wood, elements from nature, and personal mementos, we will sculpt a story!

Alessia O’Brien is a ceramicist and printmaker based in Melrose, MA. Their approach to art is tactile, organic, and fun, with a soft spot for functional work. They graduated from the New Hampshire Institute of Art in 2016, and have been a working artist since.
