This workshop will begin with a field trip to the Melrose Public Library to view an original, one of a kind, watercolor painting by pop artist Corita Kent. During our field trip we will examine the techniques used to create this painting, and return to the studio to experiment with similar techniques and execute our own vision. On the second and third days of the workshop we will explore the text-based pop art paintings and prints of Corita Kent. Using their own words or their favorite quote, students will create several works of text-based pop art. We will explore many techniques used by Kent, including printmaking, trace and transfer, collage, and painting.
