Course Description: In this 1.5 hour per week class, young potters will learn and practice the basics of hand-building, wheel-throwing, and decorating clay pieces. Students will spend most of class time hand-building. Each student will have 1 class on the wheel. 

Dates: Jan 4, Jan 11, Jan 18, Jan 25, Feb 1, Feb 8 

Age Group: This class is for students ages 8-10. Students MUST be at least 8 at the time of enrollment (by the first class) to be eligible for this class. Students who do not meet this age criteria must contact ceramics@fyamelrose.org to ask for permission to participate.

FAQ: When will pieces be ready for pick-up? The minimum amount of time to get a ceramic piece out of the glaze kiln is 2-3 weeks after the session ends.

  • Towel and apron recommended. 

Alessia O’Brien is a ceramicist and printmaker based in Melrose, MA. Their approach to art is tactile, organic, and fun, with a soft spot for functional work. They graduated from the New Hampshire Institute of Art in 2016, and have been a working artist since.
