Description: In this 2 hour per day, 4-day Monday-Thursday class, young potters will learn and practice the basics of hand-building, wheel-throwing, and decorating clay pieces. Students will spend 2 classes on the wheel, 1 class hand-building, and 1 class trimming and decorating.

Age Group: Only students in the age range listed in the course title are eligible for enrollment. Students who do not meet the age criteria must contact ceramics@fyamelrose.org to ask for permission to participate.

  • Additional Information: Classes must have 4 enrolled to run. Instruction, materials, glazing, and firing costs included in the fee. The studio provides tools. We use brown stoneware clay. All student pieces will be glazed clear and fired by staff after the session is completed, and pieces will be ready for pick-up in the Fall.

Alessia O’Brien is a ceramicist and printmaker based in Melrose, MA. Their approach to art is tactile, organic, and fun, with a soft spot for functional work. They graduated from the New Hampshire Institute of Art in 2016, and have been a working artist since.
