Basic Life Support Initial and Update teaches the 2020 American Heart Association Guidelines. It is recommended that you take an update every two years. This 2.5 hour course covers the initial management of a cardiac arrest in the adult/child/infant, proper use of an automated external defibrillator (AED) in the adult/child/infant as well as respiratory arrest, & airway obstruction in the adult, child & infant. Participants have the opportunity to practice skills with an instructor before performing a practical evaluation. You will also be expected to take an open resource exam. Books are allowed in this exam. With successful completion of both the practical & written tests, you will receive a current AHA card.

  • Late comers will not be admitted to class.
  • Please dress comfortably.
  • All classes are held at North Memorial Specialty Center.
  • 2020 Guidelines BLS Provider Manual is REQUIRED for this course. You may purchase one for $16 or inquire on your unit to see if they have any you can check out.
