The Black Experience at Penn State
1 Session | This program is completed
Penn State alum Darryl Daisey discusses the Penn State African American Chronicles, an interactive multimedia website and timeline that tells the stories of the African American students, faculty, staff, and alumni who have inspired and empowered the Penn State community. The website chronicles the struggles and successes experienced by African Americans at Penn State. Daisey discusses what it took to make the project a reality and shares how despite relatively small numbers, African Americans have been an important part of the Penn State fabric and helped to shape Penn State's strong national reputation.
Instructor: Darryl Daisey, a principal supply manager for Constellation Energy, has lived in Garnet Valley, Pennsylvania, for the past 23 years with his family. Darryl holds a B.S. degree in supply chain management from Penn State. In November 2007, he began to research and compile the Penn State African American Chronicles. This is the first comprehensive account of the Black historical experience at Penn State. Much of the fruit of that effort can be found at the website: www.blackhistory.psu.edu. A long-time history buff, he has worked with a number of African American museums and cultural centers over the years.
