Attend a tour of the operations of the Centre County Recycling and Refuse Authority to learn about recycling and waste reduction techniques. Reduction of carbon output and the role of “green building” techniques will also be discussed.

Instructor: Joanne Shafer is the deputy executive director/recycling coordinator for the Centre County Recycling and Refuse Authority. She manages the countywide recycling program, including curbside collection, a system of more than 100 drop-off sites, commercial recycling, and a source-separated Materials Recovery Facility. She chairs the statewide Professional Certification Committee and serves as an advisory member of several national, regional, and state organizations. Joanne was the inaugural chair of the Pennsylvania Recycling Markets Center board and still serves as a board member.
