This richly illustrated course presents the life of Alf Wight, better known as James Herriot. Raised in Glasgow by English parents, Wight began writing stories in the evenings after a day’s work as a vet in the Yorkshire Dales. His affectionate accounts of his often-averse patients and the dour farmers who owned them have charmed millions of readers and countless viewers. In January, PBS began Season Four.
Instructor: Walter Broughton is a descendant of folk from nearby Lancashire and vacationed some years ago in the Dales. As a sociologist, now retired, he especially appreciates Wight’s portrait of rural English ways. This will be his eighth OLLI course.
