Writing about Your Life: Personal and Family Stories as a Pathway to Memoir
3 or 4 Sessions | FULL
This course provides support and encouragement for new writers as well as experienced authors. Badiali believes wholeheartedly that personal histories are valuable treasures to be recorded and shared with loved ones. They are worth sharing with your extended family and others.
Instructor: Bernard Badiali retired from full-time service in Penn State’s College of Education in 2021. A former English teacher and professor in the Department of Curriculum and Instruction, Bern has always had an interest in helping others write about their personal experiences. He co-authored a little book with Tina Hay, former editor of the Penn Stater, entitled Recollections: Your Memory-A-Day Journal. He has taught courses on narrative and memoir writing, especially for parents and grandparents who wish to leave a written legacy for family members.
Course dates are Fridays, October 18, 25, November 1, and 8.
Participants should read a memoir or autobiography of their choice before class and bring this book to the first session. Please bring materials to support in-class writing based on their personal preference (paper and pencil, laptop computer, iPad, journal, etc.).
