Wildlife Behavior and Photography

2 Session | FULL

Due to a conflict, the second session originally scheduled for November 13 is now scheduled for November 20. The course dates are November 6 and 20.

If you are intrigued by animal behavior or the interactions between wildlife or simply want to know more about animal biology and how to capture this behavior in photographs or videos, then you will enjoy this course. In this two-session course, the biology of a range of species will be explained and illustrated. The premise of the course is that better images can be obtained if you understand biology, so Peter will explain the biology and provide technical details and the know-how to enjoy wildlife more and capture cool images.

Instructor: Peter Hudson is the Willaman Professor of Biology at Penn State and was for 14 years the Director of the Huck Institutes of the Life Sciences. He studied bird behavior at Oxford University and ran a field station in the Scottish Highlands. In 2002, he moved to Penn State and his research has focused on wildlife disease ecology and how pathogens get from wildlife into humans. His passion has always been natural history and how to capture the biology of animals in photographs and films.

  • Bring a passion for wildlife and a desire to understand the natural world. No need to own a camera but you may end up purchasing one during the course. The nearest campus visitor parking (pay for parking) is the HUB or East Parking Decks.
