Learn how the Vikings, Saxons, and Normans built on the foundations of previous eras by building castles, abbeys, and cathedrals. Some of the structures addressed will be York Minster, Bamburgh Castle, Alnwick Castle, Newcastle Castle, Whitby Abbey, and Rievaulx Abbey. Ventre into Scotland to discuss Holyrood Abbey and Edinburgh Castle. The photos and information come from a recent trip from Manchester to Edinburgh.
Instructor: Marc Sheffler designed and analyzed rotary wing aircraft at The Boeing Company. He has served as chief engineer, director of engineering, and chief technology integrator. He and his wife share a passion for travel, history, and culture. They have visited more than 60 countries across all 7 continents. Marc previously taught a course for OLLI on their 6-week journey across the South Pacific.
