Six Impressionist Painters in America
3 or 4 Sessions | Registration opens 3/3/25 8:00 AM EST
Late nineteenth-century progressive painters in the United States gravitated toward the practice and technique of French Impressionists in their desire to create modern American art. They often coupled a high-key palette with open-air scenes of the bustling American city (especially New York and Boston) as well as landscapes of the Eastern seaboard (Shinnecock, Cos Cob, Gloucester). In this three-session course, six of these artists will be featured: William Merritt Chase, J. Alden Weir, Theodore Robinson, John Henry Twachtman, Childe Hassam, and Elizabeth Sparhawk-Jones.
Instructor: Kathryn McClintock has a master’s degree in art history from Penn State and has taught the introduction to art course through Outreach for more than 20 years.
Course dates are Mondays, March 17, 24, 31.
