Bird Watching for Beginners

According to the National Survey on Recreation and the Environment, more than 95 million Americans watch birds on some level, whether at the backyard feeder or traveling across the country and beyond. This course will focus on the basics of bird watching to allow you to join in the fun. Spend time observing birds at our feeding station, aviary, and on the trails, and cover the basics of identification, tips on finding birds, and the resources to help you learn about the birds in your backyard.
Instructor: Doug Wentzel is a naturalist and program director at Shaver’s Creek Environmental Center. He considers himself a nature nerd and appreciates the world around him. Doug loves to share his findings with others.
- Please dress for indoor and outdoor activities and wear shoes that are appropriate for a short trail walk. Please allow for an extra five minutes to walk from the parking area to the Center.
