Exploring Muddy Paws Marsh in Spring
1 Session | Registration opens 3/3/25 8:00 AM EST
Come to Muddy Paws Marsh and discover the wonderful habitat created by a long-term wetland restoration project. Muddy Paws is home to a variety of animal and plant species, especially frogs and birds, and there is always something new to see as the seasons change. Our guide, Joe Gyekis, will talk to us about migratory and breeding birds of the marsh among other highlights of this distinctive environment. The tour will include a walk around the marsh’s mile-long perimeter on (sometimes puddly) mowed grass and gravel paths.
Instructor: Joe Gyekis ’06 is a health science instructor at Penn State for work and an avid bird watcher in his free time, leading field outings with the Arboretum at Penn State, the State College Bird Club, and Pennsylvania Society for Ornithology.
- The walk will be outdoors, so please dress for the weather and wear sturdy shoes you can get wet. Muddy Paws Marsh is next to Cooke Tavern Soups east of Spring Mills on Rte. 45. Park in the gravel lot between the barn and the solar panels.
