Pennsylvanians Fish Alaskan Waters and Sell Their Catch in PA

1 Session | Registration opens 3/3/25 8:00 AM EST

Kodiak Rush was started in 2022 by father-and-son team Abe and Ron Rovansek. Their mission is to sustainably catch, process, and sell directly to consumers the best-tasting fish from Alaska. Learn how this team refurbished a vintage boat, obtained licenses, and learned to fish with hook and line. OLLI member Dale Gericke was fortunate to be invited to fish the last two weeks of the 2024 season and will share his experience.

Instructors: Ron Rovansek is a full-time engineer and part-time commercial fisherman who has lived in the State College area for 20 years. In addition to engineering and fishing, Ron manages the Community Cafe at Saint Andrew's Church and is an avid birder and trail runner. For the past four years, Ron has been partners in a commercial fishing enterprise with his son Abe. Ron and Abe fish out of Homer, Alaka, for a variety of fish species and sell the fish directly to consumers.

Dale Gericke is self-employed in forestry, specializing in forest generation and working with PA Game Commission, Bureau of Forestry, and private landowners. Dale moved to Centre County in 1979, working at Ridge Soaring instructing in sailplanes and flying tow plane. An avid outdoorsman, Dale has fished since childhood, fishing the last two weeks in 2024 season with Ron - his first commercial fishing experience.
