Mega-churches will think this course ridiculous, but statistics show the decline of Christianity is steady and all too real. Why are so many young people changing their affiliation to none or atheist? We’ll ponder what are concrete ways to stop the hemorrhaging. This will, at root, be a discussion about what Jesus meant when he said “follow me.” Dietrich Bonhoeffer (martyr to Nazism) wrote just before his execution, “When Jesus calls a man, he bids him come and die.” We in the Church have not done so, will we begin to seek that path? Therein lies the solution to the Church’s problem. General knowledge of the Bible story (especially the life of Jesus) would be helpful.
