The York County SPCA is addressing major community wide challenges that surprise most tour participants.  The goal of the shelter tour is to expand participants' understanding of the impact the York County SPCA has in safeguarding public health and safety, and to ensure the whole family can remain united with their furry family member.  Participants will learn about the history of animal services, how an animal shelter functions efficiently to save thousands of animal lives annually, why human services exist at an animal shelter, and what it means to be a no-kill shelter.

Sneaker Level 2: Moderate amount of walking, museum/exhibit walking, accessible areas

The York County SPCA is located at 3159 N. Susquehanna Trail, York, PA 17406.

Martinez is the Executive Director of the York County SPCA and supports a staff of 60 and a 22,000-square-foot building housing more than 100 dogs, 320 cats, fifty small animals, a veterinary wing, a high-volume spay/neuter clinic, and lots of animal enrichment, human service, and educational programs. Prior to coming to the SPCA, he spent 10 years working in the venture capital and investment space, where he supported technology-based start-up companies. He hiked the Appalachian Trail and loves fly fishing, golf, and rail trails. Steven and his wife, Alison, enjoy spending time with their three dogs, three cats, and five chickens
