Humor comes in many styles. This course offers two very different films, both of which have earned a reputation as great comedies. We all need to laugh more, so come to the coolness of our classroom to see these two films. Both are entertaining but in very different ways.
The first film, on June 19, The Gods Must Be Crazy (1980) (CC). The plot revolves around Xi, played by actual bushman Nixau, who watches a gift fall from the sky, which he interprets as a gift from the gods. Soon, however, the gift causes dissension in his family, and he determines to return the gift by throwing it back off the end of the Earth. This is one of the most original and thought-provoking comedies ever filmed. It is 109 minutes in length.
The second film, on June 26, will be It's a Mad, Mad, Mad, Mad World (1963) (CC). A dying man reveals the secret hiding place of a treasure of cash, starting a chase to the finish for a group of zany characters. This is an explosive motion picture experience starring Spencer Tracy and a group of A-listers too long to mention here. Watch for a cameo appearance by the Three Stooges! This film is two hours and forty minutes in length.
