One of the Better Ones: Major Hildebrandt and the Garibaldi Guard at Gettysburg, July 1863

This course concludes the trilogy of the 39th New York Volunteer Infantry Garibaldi Guard with the regiment's role during the Gettysburg campaign, and its actions on July 2 & July 3, 1863. Participants will be introduced to a brief background of the regiment and its status at the beginning of the campaign as well as its movements to battle.
Mark Luongo
Mark J. Luongo is a retired educator and adjunct professor. He worked with the New York City Department of Education, Kingsborough Community College, and Port Richmond High School. Luongo taught advanced placement history courses, sociology, and Civil War studies. He earned a bachelor’s degree in history from Widener University, a master's degree in history from New York University, and a master of education from Wagner College. Since 1978, he has been a living historian of the Civil War, American Revolution, and World War II. Luongo is currently affiliated with the Officers and Ladies for the Union in Gettysburg, Pennsylvania.
