The Three Geologists That Laid Down York County's Foundation

Atreus Wanner, Anna Jones, and George Stose are three of the most important historic geologists in York County.  Atreus Wanner, a resident of York, conducted the first fossil recovery of dinosaur foot prints in the area  He also identified Cambrian-aged trilobite sites in York County. Anna Jones, one of the earliest female geologists, teamed up with George Stose and conducted the first detailed geologic map of York County and more detailed quadrangle mapping that were published by the U.S. Geological Survey and the PA Geological Survey.

Jeri Jones

Jeri Jones has been a geologist for forty-five years, studying the area’s geology. He worked for York County Parks for thirty-eight years and owns his own geologic educational and consulting firm. Jeri has authored several books and articles.
