Music as Creative Resistance During the Holocaust (Repeat from Spring 2023, with changes)

Music as Creative Resistance During the Holocaust will examine music and musicians during the Holocaust who used music as a way to hold onto their humanity and dignity in the face of Nazi attempts to dehumanize and degrade them. Participants will listen to excerpts and discuss the meaning of songs. Songs of the camps and ghettos will be used.
Debra Smith
Deb Smith has an MA in Holocaust and Genocide Studies. Currently, she is enrolled in the PhD program in Holocaust and Genocide Studies at Gratz College. She has completed the following education in Holocaust Studies: the United States Holocaust Memorial Museum Belfer I Program 2008, the USHMM Belfer II Program 2009, the USHMM Fellowship Program 2013, JFR Fellowship 2014, HAJRTP Trip to Germany and Poland 2016.
Deb attended the International Holocaust Conference at Yad Vashem 2018, was selected to volunteer with the USHMM CHEC program (2022-2023), and has taught music/theatre/Holocaust for 34 years.
