Tour of the Delta Slate Industry and Welsh Heritage

We will start the three hour tour at the Rehoboth Welsh Church in Delta. The Old Line Museum will be closed for renovations however, one of the tour guides will speak about the museum’s history and contents. You will see the Welsh Quarrymen’s cottages built in the 1850’s, Indian artifacts, railroad memorabilia, a slate quarry, slate demo, graveyard with slate tombstones and the famous Rehoboth Welsh Church. Don Robinson is very active in the history of the Peach Bottom slate region and has given several tours for OLLI.
This is a four sneaker tour: There will be hiking both on and off paved areas, some outdoor strenuous walking, not all areas are accessible. The tour will be held rain or shine with a lot of walking and standing. Wear sturdy shoes.
Tour Participants will use their own cars to travel between sites in Delta. Following the tour, participants can enjoy lunch on their own at the Delta Family Restaurant. Participants may bring their own snacks and drinks if desired.
