Paved Over Prominence Walking Tour

Tour | Registration opens 1/21/2025 8:00 AM EST

Embark on a journey of discovery honoring the resilient spirit of York’s Black community. This walking tour explores the tapestry of Black history in York City, Pennsylvania. Uncover the significance of sites once rich with life, culture, and spirit — now abandoned, demolished, or obscured by the relentless march of progress. This tour highlights the places where prominent black families, now interred in Lebanon Cemetery, lived, worked, and worshipped in the 1800s and early 1900s, focusing on the Royal Square area.

This is a one sneaker tour (limited amount of walking, accessible areas) and will include walking the sidewalks in York City. Please wear comfortable shoes.

  • Meeting Place: Yorktowne Hotel Main Entrance: 48 E. Market St. York, Pennsylvania 17401.
