The Politics of Slavery, from Jefferson to Lincoln

This course will track the impact of slavery on American politics from the founding and its Constitutional roots, through the turbulence of the first six decades of the 19th century up to the Civil War. We will discuss how political parties and political leaders both used and were impacted by the issue of slavery. 

Ronald Hershner

Ron Hershner holds a B.A. with honors in history from Dickinson College and a J.D. and LLM from Dickinson School of Law. He is a partner attorney with Stock and Leader. He has written several books and articles on York County history and is a past chair of the York County History Center. Hershner is a regular speaker at OLLI on topics of American history, especially politics and the law.
