York County in the 1800s: Witnessing Growth of Shops, Terrors of War, and Construction of Factories
Course | Registration opens 12/9/2024 8:00 AM EST
Early in the 19th century, the last of the leaders who had helped shape York County from its early days died, leaving space for a new generation to form a business class, owners of shops and mills. In this third in a series of four OLLI classes, James McClure will cover such moments as the freedom seekers on the Underground Railroad, scores of men sent as Union soldiers to fight in the Civil War, the women in support of the Union military effort, the terror from the Confederate raid that reached the west bank of the Susquehanna, and many more. (It is not necessary to have attended previous classes).
