York County in the 1900s: Resilience Among Soul-Withering Times that Tried Men's and Women's Souls
Course | Registration opens 1/21/2025 8:00 AM EST
The twentieth century brought wars and rumors of wars. The world wars and fighting in southeast Asia. A civil war of sorts -- a tumultuous 1960s that, by one account, resulted in the worst race riots among more than 500 in the nation. But good and lasting things came from these moments: the Great Depression brought the formation of Martin Library, the York Symphony Orchestra and other iconic organizations. These moments, including human smuggling and many more, are covered in the last in a series of four century-by-century classes that provide a survey of York County's rich and deep story.
